Earlier today, Miles fell asleep in the stroller on the way home from running errands. As I picked him up to put him into his crib, he started fussing, so I walked around the house soothing him until he was back asleep. With his head softly cradled between my cheek and my shoulder, I had the overwhelming feeling that this moment is precious… and I wondered if it wouldn’t be too long before Miles wouldn’t want to fall asleep in the arms of his dad… So I picked up my camera and captured the moment.

A rainy day in Paris kept Miles and me from going out and exploring, however a late afternoon break in the weather found us easily packed and out the door. We took the Metro to La Muette and met Mommy at the park.

Miles loved exploring the various cars of the train. He also loved looking at the other children and even tried to make a friend.

We went to Versaille with our friend G and his family. It was a mad-house getting into the parking lot, but eventually we found parking in the neighborhood and G showed us the miracle of parallel parking in Europe — “amazing!” We hiked up the cobblestone hill to the Chateau just as the sun was setting. There was a crescent moon rising over the forest, and the fountains and statues and pathways were all lighted for the festival. Classical music was broadcast throughout the estate as both water gushed in streams into the night and flames burst upwards along the center of the gardens to the timing of the music.

G’s son led the way and challenged us to explore much of the park. I tried to take photographs along the route, but realized yet again, that stowing a tripod in the walker would have been a good thing; oh well, next time. We saw many novel, night-time views of likely-historic and beautiful statuary and fountains.

As we sat and relaxed along the path to watch the fireworks, I was treated to a game of gathering up pebbles with G’s kids. Their laughter was as lovely as the blasts that echoed above us in the sky.

Rene drove home as Miles and I dozed in the back of the car. Sleep felt deliciously earned. It was truly a pleasure to enjoy some relaxing time on the weekend with our fine, new friends.

I met Rene Friday afternoon after work and we walked in the Tuileries Garden, sat on a bench and talked, and ate a crepe with lemon and sugar.

Miles and I visited the Albert Khan Museum, a truly magical place. I know we’ll be coming back often during our stay in Paris.

I registered for a library card at the bibliotek here in Bologne (all in French). This was Miles’ first trip to the library. And, as you can see, he enjoyed reaching for books in the children’s section.
